All Risk Mortality & Theft

Major Medical & Surgical

This policy is available for foals, yearlings, stallions, mares and geldings of all breeds and types. We have designed this coverage to insure your horse against death from almost any cause. This includes transportation and humane destruction made necessary by an illness or accidental injury anywhere in the continental United States or Canada. Our policy is unique in the industry as our Basic Form includes coverage for theft and $3,000 colic surgery including aftercare at no additional cost.  We can even quote and bind coverage on the telephone!

Our policy automatically includes Free Colic Surgery coverage, providing the horse does not have a history of colic problems. The coverage limit is 60% of the insured value with a maximum of $3,000 and no deductible.  If you insure your horse for Major Medical or Surgical as well, you will have access to the maximum limits on both coverage parts.  We even pay up to $300 for emergency horse transportation!

Guaranteed extension and agreed value coverage are also automatically included in full mortality policies policies.  Veterinary exams and certificates are not required for horses under $100,000.

Guaranteed Coverage Extension

The Full Mortality policy also includes Guaranteed Extension coverage. This coverage provides that in the event of a condition occurring and reported during the policy period, mortality coverage will automatically continue for up to 12 months from the expiration date for that specific condition.

This coverage will help you control unforeseen veterinary expenses for events related to the health of your animal. This valuable endorsement covers up to $7,500, $10,000 or $17,500 of reasonable and customary veterinary, medical and surgical care charges necessitated by accident, injury or illness. A $300 deductible will apply to each separate claim during the period of insurance.  No sub-limit for diagnostics, treatments and no limitations for continuing care.  Humane destruction is covered under the policy but economic destruction is not.  If you choose to put your horse down for financial reasons, the policy will not offer coverage for this.

Not all policies are created equally.  The adage "you get what you pay for" is very true.  For example, most policies impose a time limit for how long the insurer will cover a medical problem.  This limit varies between companies and can be as short as four weeks.  Our policy will cover for the problem for the entire policy period in which it happened.  This can be quite important if you are dealing with a serious problem like EPM where the necessary medication and care is both lengthy and costly.

bullet Diagnostics - up to the full limit of the medical coverage is available for diagnostics, often a significant cost in examining and treating an ill or injured horse.
bullet Lameness - Policy coverage has no limitations on diagnostics or continuing care for lameness or other conditions.
bullet No Co-Pays - Policy has no co-payment requirements.
bullet Continuing Care - No policy continuing care time limits.
bullet Navicular, arthritis, and DJD - Conditions such as navicular, arthritis, and DJD are not automatically excluded.
bullet Medical extensions - Policy provides for up to 30 days additional coverage after expiration. Some companies have no extension on medical conditions occurring just prior to expiration.

Loss of Use - Full or External Injury Extended Renewal Protection
Loss of Use coverage can be added to the Full Mortality policy by endorsement for animals ages 1 to 17. The policy will pay up to seventy-five percent (75%) of the actual cash value in the event that the horse becomes permanently unfit for use in the show ring, due to an accident, injury or illness.

Permits renewal of coverage on a designated animal without the need for a current veterinarian's health certificate, if the renewal is for the same use.  The additional premium is $30.oo per covered animal.

Stallion Infertility AS&D Valuation
Coverage provides that in the event your proven stallion becomes permanently incapable of settling mares in foal as a result of accident, sickness or disease, you will be paid up to 100% of the indemnity due under the mortality policy.  Coverage is not available to stallions in their first breeding season.

The value of a horse is usually the paid purchase price. Other factors can also be taken into consideration when determining the insurable value. Transportation costs from point of purchase, sales tax and training expenses are examples of direct costs that can be included in valuation calculations. The insurance value may further increase with prize winnings, performance level and when offspring justifies such an increase. If the requested insurance amount exceeds the purchase price please provide an explanation of valuation.

TRIP TRANSIT

Full and Limited Mortality coverage may be extended to include international transportation to and from other approved countries. The policy period ranges from 1 to 90 days and premium for Trip Transit coverage is rated 0.4% to 3.0% based upon coverage and policy period.  Premium is fully earned. Prior notification of transit must be given.   THE EQUESTRIAN GROUP will bind Limited Mortality coverage by telephone or FAX with premium payment.  Full Mortality can be bound if your veterinarian calls immediately after examining the animal. Limited Mortality perils include fire, lightning, flood, theft and transportation accidents. Coverage is bound pending receipt and acceptance of the completed application, veterinary certificate (if applicable) and any other supporting information requested. A satisfactory Statement of Health is adequate to bind and issue mortality coverage for horses valued up to $25,000, ages 30 days to 17 years old. Payment plans available.
